All juveniles must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Mandatory court appearances are required for all defendants under the age of 17 for City Ordinance Violations. Juveniles who fail to appear in court may have an additional charge of failure to appear filed against them. Failure to appear by a parent is a Class C misdemeanor and you may be fined up to $200.
All alcohol, tobacco, and drug paraphernalia violations require a mandatory court appearance for a defendant under the age of 18.
When a child and parent appear before the court they have an obligation to provide the court in writing with the current address and residence of the child. This obligation does not end when the child reaches the age of 17. The child and parent shall notify the court of the current address within 7 days after the change of address. It is a Class C misdemeanor if you do not comply with the court.
The obligation to provide notice terminates on discharge and satisfaction of the judgement or final disposition not requiring a finding of guilt.
