Public Information Act Request

As of March 19, 2020, the City of Windcrest City Hall has been closed.  The offices will remain closed through Monday, April 13 or further notice.  Thank submitted your Public Information Act (“PIA”) Request submitted to the City.  While your PIA request has been submitted, the City and/or the department necessary to comply with requests for information are currently operating with reduced staff and a skeleton crew under the state and local restrictions imposed in response to COVID-19. Only staff necessary for essential operations and services are permitted to operate from the main building.
The Texas Attorney General’s Office has determined that such reduced staff/skeleton crews do not operate as business days under the Texas Public Information Act. As a result, the City is not able to respond to your request(s) at this time and all time periods applicable under the Act are paused. Once the City resumes normal staffing and/or operations, the Act’s time periods will resume, and we will respond to your request in a timely manner.

The Public Information Act 

Texas Government Code, Chapter 552, gives you the right to access government records; and an officer for public information and the officer’s agent may not ask why you want them. All government information is presumed to be available to the public. Certain exceptions may apply to the disclosure of the information. Governmental bodies shall promptly release requested information that is not confidential by law, either constitutional, statutory, or by judicial decision, or information for which an exception to disclosure has not been sought.

At it’s meeting held on February 23, 2009, City Council passed Ordinance Number 577, an ordinance related to time spent on requests for public information by city employees along with associated costs. View this ordinance (PDF) in it’s entirety. 

How do I submit a reques?  

The City of Windcrest requires all requests for City records to be submitted in writing and submitted to the citysecretary@windcrest-tx.gov.

Make an internet based open records request, otherwise the City of Windcrest offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Monday through Friday (excepting holidays).
